BOSTON — The Boston Renegades will begin their run toward an historic third championship in a row when they face the New York Wolves to start their season. Competing in the country’s premier women’s football league — the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) — the Renegades kick off their eight-game regular season in New York on April 11th. Their first home game takes place at Harry della Russo Stadium in Revere, Mass., on April 25th against the Minnesota Vixen.

The Renegades are coming off a season where they captured the team’s second consecutive title, and the city’s fifth professional women’s football championship since 2010. The Renegades beat the Cali War 52-24 in the WFA National Championship game in July 2019. The title victory was a storybook ending to an undefeated season that saw the Renegades outscoring their opponents 608 to 148 through nine games.

Offensive liner Amanda Alpert #50 is gearing up for her sixteenth season and knows that success only fuels larger goals for the future. “Our vision is to be the best there is, best there was, and the best there ever will be. Our sights are always set on the championship,” said Alpert.

Despite the Renegades’ recent success, the team is not complacent. “This preseason we have our eyes on the prize. Coming off of our first team meeting and practices I can already tell that no one is going into this any less hungry. It is especially exciting that our 2020 schedule includes competitors we haven’t seen before,” said wide receiver and team captain Stephanie Pascual #3.

This year the Renegades will face three unfamiliar opponents when they host the Detroit Dark Angels and Minnesota Vixen, and travel to face the St. Louis Slam. The Slam (2019 Division 2 champions) and Vixen (2019 Division 2 semifinalist) have stepped up to compete in the Pro Division for 2020, and are potential playoff opponents for the Renegades. The Dark Angels (2019 Division 2 finalist), are an early favorite to win the Division 2 title this season.

While one of the team’s predecessors, the Massachusetts Mutiny, played teams from Detroit and St. Louis in 2002 and 2006 respectively, this is the first time the Renegades will see the current iterations of these championship-pedigree teams. Despite being one of the longest running programs in women’s football history, Minnesota has never met up with a team from Boston.

The Renegades’ schedule also includes a road game against the Cleveland Fusion, as well as home and away matchups with the D.C. Divas, Boston’s biggest rival. Regardless of the opponent, Pascual knows that the end goal is always the same. “I know that every player on our team is excited to show that we deserve to be number one; it doesn’t matter who we play.”
