Chanté Bonds not only plays cornerback and safety, but also wide receiver, running back, kick returner, and even quarterback. Her versatility on the football field helped earn her the 2018 WFA Most Valuable Player award. She was also the MVP of the 2018 National Championship Game. In 2017, she was recognized by the WFA as Defensive Player of the Year.
While Quarterback Allison Cahill was sidelined with a shoulder injury in 2016, Bonds stepped under center and helped lead the team to the conference finals. She topped that feat in 2022 when she stepped in for Cahill to lead the Renegades to their fourth WFA Pro title. Bonds was named MVP of the game.
Bonds is also a member of the U.S. Women’s National Football Team. The team won the gold medal at the 2022 IFAF Women’s World Championship.
Prior to her football career, she was an outstanding basketball player at Brockton (Mass.) High School leading the team to a Massachusetts state title in 2001. Bonds later helped Bentley University Women’s Basketball to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2003 and was named Northeast 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Bonds’ sense of belonging on a football field is one of the main focal points of the documentary film Born To Play.
